What is DubSmash?
Dubsmash is an app that lets you choose short audio clips of famous quotes from movies, lyrics from popular songs or even sounds from viral videos, which you can dub over video recordings of yourself. It’s a quick and easy way to film a really funny video of yourself without having to put a whole lot of effort into it.
The History of DubSmash
Jonas Drüppel, Roland Grenke, and Daniel Taschik founded the company in Germany, and Dubsmash was released on 14 November 2014. The company moved to Brooklyn in 2016.Reddit announced the acquisition of Dubsmash on December 13, 2020. Reddit stated in 2021 that Dubsmash’s tools and technologies would be integrated with Reddit’s own video creation features. The integration, according to Reddit, will result in the shutdown of the standalone Dubsmash app on February 22, 2022, after which all user videos and posts will be inaccessible unless the user has already downloaded them. The URL www.dubsmash.com has been redirected to www.reddit.com as of February 22, and the app is no longer available on the App Store for iOS or the Play Store for Android smartphones. The r/Dubsmash subreddit on Reddit was formed to keep users in touch.
