SovTech: Finalists in AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2018
South African-based custom software development company, SovTech, has recently been named a finalist in the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2018. The company’s development of the application Project UBU (Universal Basic Unit) landed them recognition in the Blockchain Awards Category after competing against hundreds of entries from across Africa.
Joining SovTech as a finalist in the category was Custos Media Technologies for Custos (South Africa), Fintech Ltd for Interstellar Decentralised Wallet and Exchange (Cameroon) and Savannah Lab for GoomCash (Mauritania).
On being selected as a finalist in the blockchain space, SovTech CEO, Gerald Neves, says; “We consider blockchain and cryptocurrency to be one of the most important innovations since the invention of the internet, and as one of the continent’s leading developers of blockchain-based digital assets, it’s a service we offer our clients as an opportunity to innovate and open up new markets for business.”
The SovTech team responsible for the development of Project UBU included Andrew Chouler as Product Manager and Nusrath Khan as Lead Developer. The team collaborated closely with the founders of the concept to produce what exists today as a currency that can be issued free to all citizens and exchanged for goods and services.
There are 14 categories recognised in the awards, each of which were assessed by an independent panel of industry experts, who then whittled down entries to the 70 finalists announced yesterday afternoon.
AppsAfrica celebrates the best in mobile and technology from across Africa and for this year’s awards attracted over 300 submissions from 39 countries, with solutions launched across all 54 African markets by start-ups, established ventures, and corporates.
